Travel for free with your own business

Most people would think that in order to live a life of traveling luxury, you’d need to sell an awful lot of merchandise, especially at a 2% profit margin (ie. If you sold something for $100, you’d only make $2)

Over at bloggingexperiment.com, however, the author has a friend who sells wooden playground sets online. Upon selling each one for around $2,600, he makes the fairly small amount of $50. He sells about 6 sets a day, however, which ends up earning him a yearly salary of about $110,000. That’s pretty good, but not that much if you want to travel around the world every month.

The secret to his traveling is his use of an American Express card for everything in his business.

“His business spends $465,000 per month on his American Express card. That means, his card is earning him $6,200 in FREE TRAVEL every single month. He earns almost as much credit for free travel than he does with his entire business…Imagine what you could do if your business generated $74,000 worth of free travel for you this year. You could take your entire family on multiple vacations, all fly first class and stay at the best possible hotels, all completely free.”

Google Docs: A must have collaboration tool

For my first post here, it seems right to start off by sharing an extremely useful collaboration tool: Google Documents.

Google Docs allows you  to create and edit a document, PDF, spreadsheet, or presentation completely online and then invite friends, co-workers, or family to edit the same document at the same time from their own computer.

Why is that useful?

  • Create a shopping list that you and your spouse can edit at any time
  • Plan a trip with your friends – you can add maps, dates, and your own research to the general plan
  • Create a presentation or summary of your team’s findings, even when you’re not in the office
  • Set up a spreadsheet for a volunteering organisation so everyone can sign up for the most convenient times for them to help out.
  • Make up your own reason – there are plenty! Read the rest of this entry »
